APWCE Conference Starts in:


4th APWCE 2018, the International Conference on Engineering aims to bring researchers, academics, scientists, and industry people in a common platform yearly basis for presenting and discussing new innovative technologies in the area of various Engineering. In particular, Biomedical, Civil, Electrical and Renewable Energy, Mechanical and Mechatronics, and Transport Engineering. The Conference will be a forum for participants to discuss state-of-the-art innovations in technologies which have been made available by the engineers and will feature plenary and panel sessions as well as technical paper presentations and poster sessions. Tutorials by international experts on engineering applications will also be available. The overall theme for 2018 is "Technology for Sustainable Development”. APWCE 2018 is also aimed to promote discussion about the pedagogical potential of new technologies to Asia-Pacific region.

Topic:
Distributed Generation Integration for Smart Grids
Abstract:
While the cost of renewable generation is decreasing, the cost of not integrating it in a smart way with the grid is increasing—as evidenced by the recent blackout in South Australia (SA) on 28 September 2016. The SA blackout, instead of a possible brownout, was due to the inability of the renewable generation to form a stable grid without external support and this dependence is detrimental to the renewable energy integration. In a transmission network, such as the SA grid, one may be able to justify a fossil fuel base-load plant but in future distribution systems, the prime location for renewable generation, the network should be stable and highly reliable with decentralised control and without any fossil fuel base-load support. The talk will discuss the type of grid formation which is essential to transform the legacy grid to a smart grid that can integrate renewable and energy storage resources at a much higher and wider participation levels in distribution systems.
Biography:
Hemanshu R. Pota received B.E. from Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology, Surat, India, in 1979, M.E. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1981, and the Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, in 1985; all in Electrical Engineering. He is currently an associate professor at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia. He has held visiting appointments at Columbia University, New York City, the University of California, Los Angeles; the University of Delaware; Iowa State University; Kansas State University; Old Dominion University; the University of California, San Diego; and Centre for AI and Robotics, Bangalore. He has published over 140 journal papers, one research monograph, fourteen book chapters, and over 280 international conference papers. He is an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, and an Editor-in-Chief of Technology and Economics of Smart Grids and Sustainable Energy, a Springer journal. His current research interests are in the dynamics and control of power systems and control of atomic force microscope. He works as a consultant with GHD Consultants on power system dynamics and control related matters.

Big Data - Big Application
Abstract:
Right now, Big Data, Data Science or Data Analytics are being on wide interest in industry and academia. During this talk, we will discuss two questions based on my research industry engagement practice. The first one is business gain from such buzz words. This is a practical question from business. Based on my research, big data can help business to identify big niche market opportunity which can grow up to become major markets. For example, by analysing and generalising potential weak connection between previously sparse data sources such as flight booking data and supermarket user data, we can better expand or enhance the market for personal recommendation on flight booking. The second is about how researchers can make a full potential to business. A say is "It's not who has the best algorithm that wins. It's who has the most data" by Andrew Ng (Coursea founder). Data is becoming an important resource equally important to oil. While various public datasets are available to academics or researchers for research evaluation, those datasets may not be suitable or useful and timely for researchers. One way to make full potential of big data is to intensively work with industry because they have timely data. More or less, every industry is doing data analysis yet just on their specific purposes. We will brief our research and collaboration with specific industries.
Biography:
Dr Jinjun Chen is a Professor from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He is Deputy Director of Swinburne Data Science Research Institute, and Director of Data Science Platforms and Systems. He holds a PhD in Information Technology from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. His research interests include scalability, big data, data science, software systems, cloud computing, data privacy and security, and related various research topics. His research results have been published in more than 140 papers in international journals and conferences, including various IEEE/ACM Transactions. He received UTS Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Research Excellence Highly Commended (2014), UTS Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Research Excellence Finalist (2013), Swinburne Vice-Chancellor’s Research Award (ECR) (2008), IEEE Computer Society Outstanding Leadership Award (2008-2009) and (2010-2011), IEEE Computer Society Service Award (2007), Swinburne Faculty of ICT Research Thesis Excellence Award (2007). He is an Associate Editor for ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, as well as other journals such as Journal of Computer and System Sciences, JNCA. He is the Chair of IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC).

Paper Submission
Authors can submit their original work in the form of a Regular Paper, representing completed and validated research about an issue discussing ideas, facts, situations, methods, procedures or results of scientific research focused on one of the conference topic areas. All papers must be submitted under the following IEEE guideline through the online submission. After the paper submission, authors will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail.

Publication
4th APWCE 2018 will follow two publication models. All the conference paper submission will go through first for the peer review process. Then the accepted papers will place in the Digital IEEE conference proceedings. Few top ranked paper based on the reviewers ranking will be selecting for the following below journal special issues:

Submission Guidelines
Authors should submit a paper in English, carefully checked for correct grammar and spelling, addressing one or several of the conference areas or topics. Each paper should clearly indicate the nature of its technical/scientific contribution, and the problems, domains or environments to which it is applicable. To facilitate the double-blind paper evaluation method, authors are kindly requested to produce and provide the paper WITHOUT any reference to any of the authors, including the authors’ personal details, the acknowledgements section of the paper and any other reference that may disclose the authors’ identity. All papers must be submitted through the online submission process which is accessible in the conference main page under 'Actions' and should follow the instructions and templates provided in the documents below, which are also the templates for the camera-ready submission. After the paper submission has been successfully completed, authors will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail.

Conference Paper Formats, including Special Sessions
Authors can submit their work in the form of a Regular Paper, representing completed and validated research, or as a Position Paper, portraying work in progress or an arguable opinion about an issue.

Regular Papers
Submission: Regular Papers should be 8 pages long, including references, tables, graphs, images and appendices. Submissions with less than 6 pages or more than 10 pages will be automatically rejected.

Acceptance: After a double-blind peer review, qualifying Regular Papers may be accepted as either Full Papers or Short Papers.

Presentation: Regular Papers classified as Full Papers are awarded a 30’ minutes slot for an oral presentation at the conference. Regular Papers classified as Short Papers are given either a 20’ minutes slot for an oral presentation or assigned to present at a Poster Session. Authors who have been assigned an oral presentation, either Full or Short, may however also choose to present at a Poster Session instead, should they prefer it.

Indexation: The proceedings will be submitted to Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus for indexation.

Abstract Submission
